Senior Lead Utility Operator

Burney is located in the heart of the world-renowned fishing area of Eastern Shasta county, between Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen, and approximately fifty miles east of Redding, California. The area is known for its beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear streams, clear blue skies and fresh, pine scented mountain air.

If you are interested in a rewarding and challenging career in the water industry, the Burney Water District has an opportunity for you. This is a rare full-time career opportunity in Burney as a District Senior Lead Utility Operator.

This position shares responsibility in maintenance and repair of the domestic water supply system, wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment. The Senior Lead Utility Operator performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks and may be designated as the District’s Wastewater Chief Plant Operator, depending on qualifications.

The Senior Lead Utility Operator is expected to be currently certified in water treatment/distribution and hold a current California State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate. This is considered a senior-level position and a person in this position would likely have several years of experience and a thorough working knowledge in field operations.

Currently, field staff are scheduled to work five days per week, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and may include coverage of weekends depending on staff assignment. In addition, field staff may be required to work varying shifts on weekdays, weekends, holidays, and standby/on-call hours for emergency call services.

Salary Range is $62,536 – $76,170 annually. The District offers generous benefits that include Medical, Dental, Vision, Certification Pay, Longevity Pay, and group Life Insurance. The District participates in the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS), and employees can voluntarily participate in the CalPERS Supplemental Income 457 Plan. District staff enjoy 12 paid holidays, 3 additional paid days off/year, and accrued vacation and sick leave.
